OQAATSUT KAYAKING DAY

OQAATSUT KAYAKING DAY

Do you want to live an authentic Greenlandic experience? Live the Arctic nature and Inuit culture paddling among icebergs, visiting an authentic settlement and enjoying a traditional Greenlandic lunch.

Join us in a unique experience in Greenland, where you live the Arctic nature and Inuit culture in the same day. Paddle among icebergs on a kayak (a typical Greenlandic mean of transport), visit an authentic Inuit settlement, enjoy a traditional Greenlandic lunch and sail under the light of the midnight sun along Disko Bay.

The day starts sailing from Ilulissat to Oqaatsut (a traditional Inuit settlement). There you are welcomed to our kayak base, we gear up and explain how to handle a kayak and the safety protocols for artic waters, specifically designed by our experienced instructor. Now the real experience starts, paddling in one of the most stunning landscapes on
Earth: Disko Bay. A sea of icebergs of all sizes and shapes, rocks, cliffs and sometimes even humpback whales! The paddling takes about two hours, with some stops for relaxing and giving some interesting information. You can use your own camera if you want. However there is something even better: our guide will take many pictures along the excursion and send them to you, for free!

Afterwards we enjoy a traditional Greenlandic lunch made by local people. After lunch, you have time to explore the settlement and its traditional way of life on your own. Finally we sail back to Ilulissat and enjoy the magic light of the midnight sun shining on the huge icebergs. Everyone can do the activity and it counts with all the safety measures. We adapt every activity to the requirements of our guests: experienced kayakers, unexperienced people, different ages and even private groups.

Our office is in Kussangajaannguag and Fredericiap Aqq corner, in the center of Ilulissat.
